Seniority Moves Closer to Its First Pilot

Last First Foundation is moving closer to the first pilot phase of Seniority, our virtual community project designed to help older adults and other underserved community members experience connection, belonging, and meaningful participation through an accessible online world.

Seniority is being built as more than a website, video chat room, or social media group. Our goal is to create a welcoming virtual environment where people can gather, explore, attend events, meet others, and participate in community life in ways that are gentle, dignified, and easier to access from home.

Over the past several months, we have made important progress toward the first pilot. The early prototype environment is taking shape, including a small virtual apartment space, core navigation and interaction systems, and the beginning pieces of the user experience that will allow participants to move through the space, interact with objects, and eventually meet others.

We have also prepared early interest and contact forms so that community members can let us know whether they would like to learn more, offer feedback, or participate in future testing. This step matters because Seniority is not being built around assumptions. It is being built around listening.

The first pilot will help us learn what works, what feels intuitive, what feels welcoming, and what needs to be simplified before the platform grows. We are especially interested in accessibility, emotional safety, ease of use, and whether the experience feels genuinely human rather than technical or intimidating.

This is still an early-stage project, but it is no longer only an idea. Seniority is becoming something people will soon be able to enter, test, and help shape.

We are grateful to everyone who has encouraged this work, asked thoughtful questions, offered feedback, or simply understood why isolation is not a small problem. Connection is not a luxury. For many people, it is part of health, dignity, and hope.

As we move toward pilot testing, we will continue sharing updates here.
